Well, the Peru box didn't make it here, today guys. I'm so sorry! If there was something I could have done, I would, but it got held up at customs in Lima and then again in Atlanta, so that was that. It is unfortunate timing that it happened RIGHT before I leave town for 10 days, but honestly, this whole month and a half has been sort of a crazy mess with traveling, Henry home, moving, etc. and I am just happy to be alive and sane at this point, lol. I have worked it out so they will get here the day I return from MI and I will do all invoicing the very same day. I know this delay is going to put me past the 45 day mark I set out when I took deposits (it will be more like 49 days), so if anyone would rather take their deposit back than wait the extra time, please let me know. I'm hoping that the next round will be a bit smoother, and the next smoother, etc. until it's like buttah.
Now, off to pack and get ready for the northward pilgrimage.
The good news is that today was Kyle's last day of teaching summer school so starting when we get back from MI, he will (in theory) be primary caregiver to the wee beast (and he has truly been living up to that last bit the last few days) so I should get back to working semi-full time in the (relative) quiet of my loverly office. I caaaaaaan't waiiiiiiiiiiiit...

Pretty!
As we go from June to July, I can finally say that it is no longer "holiday shopping time" at the Crankypants website. I have been meaning to have it updated for months and months but there always seemed to be onemorething I wanted to get done first so all the changes could be made at once. I finally admitted that the day I have everything ready all at once will never come and had the home page changed and some small things tweaked.

It now features the fair trade Peruvian Crankys modeled by superstar Gabe. Thanks Gabe! Have fun at the beach next week!
The other night we had the pleasure of going out to dinner with some great friends, JP and Meryl. They were originally friends of Kyle's parents who introduced them to us-but we all hit it off immediately and I think we are taking custody of them from Kyle's folks. We spent the evening talking about their amazingly rich life histories (JP was a child performer riding the unicycle in the Royal Hungarian Circus. I know.), their non-profit (bringing the circus arts to hundreds of thousands of under privileged and at risk kids a year, both through performance and training. I know.), the new house and everything in between. They brought Henry 3 things: a metal kazoo, a harmonica and a small slide whistle. Meryl and JP, if you're reading this, you can expect to have Henry show up on your doorstep by summer's end. Slide whistle in hand. Ready for his turn on the flying trapeze.

Classic Crankys Update
Well, I spoke to my contact in Peru and it looks like the box has been held up in Lima. If it goes out tonight like they promised him, he will do his absolute best to have it to my door on Friday, in which case I can send balance invoices and print out all the shipping labels here Friday night, take the box with me on the road and ship the orders from MI as payments come in. If they are held up further, I will have to have someone pick the box up for me while we're gone and ship as soon as I get home July 7th or 8th. I know that is super stinky, but there is really nothing I can do about it except remember that doing business this way-with actual people and not machines-requires a little more patience sometimes. I hope y'all understand and I'll absolutely keep you in the loop and let you know as soon as I hear anything.
ALSO. End/beginning of the month falls smack in the middle of this trip. Normally that wouldn't be a big deal, but Kyle's folks don't have internet, or even a computer (or even a phone) at the up north house. I'm going to bring Kyle's laptop and cross my fingers that someone nearby has wireless I can use, but if that isn't the case I'll have to make the 20 minute drive into town every time I check email. I'm going to try to keep everything running as normally as possible, but I might only be able to check mail once a day, which is stinky for my customs folks who are excited and want to chat. I'll be a chatty Cathy as soon as I get back to town, but if you are going for a custom slot just know that communication might be kind of sparse until I get home.
After that I am home for a good long while, so all of this crazy travel business will not resume again until holiday when we all go a little nuts again.
Lastly, for Crankypants fans in the Chicago area, check us out in the CosmoTot column in the Spring issue of Chicago Baby Magazine under the heading "Pick of the Knitter". Thanks for the mention, Pilar!
Meg and Kristi-your longies will be in the mail tomorrow, pictures to come.
Dom-I got the cards, they are amazing! I'm waiting on the Classics for your big package o' Cranky goodness.
Necia and Karen-I'm still working on it. I hope to get them both out by the time I leave for MI.
I think that's everyone!

Pth.
I am not a happy camper.
Last night was a truly horrifying experience, and it seems to be drawing on and on even though we're finally home safe and sound.
We were supposed to have an easy peasy travel day. Fly Hartford-Charlotte/ Charlotte-Asheville. Be at the airport at 4, leave at 5 and be home at 9pm. At the gate, they said the plane had been delayed because of weather and people with connections had to reschedule. I had the choice between flying into Charlotte and Kyle driving the 2.5 hours each way to pick us up, or rescheduling the flight for today-losing another day of work and having no one to pick us up at the airport because we'd land while Kyle was at work. Kyle said he didn't mind driving because we'd been gone for 10 days and he wanted to see us, so I chose the former.
Big. Mistake.
They told us we'd be leaving at 6:30, so Kyle jumped in the car to meet us in Charlotte at 8:30. Then they grounded all flights to/from Charlotte. Unfortunately, Kyle was already halfway there, so he was stuck on the side of the road waiting for an update to see if he should turn back or keep going. We finally boarded at 8 and took off shortly after. It was fine until we got over VA and the weather worsened in Charlotte so they put us in a holding pattern, flying aroun in circles with 7 other planes over a horrible thunderstorm for an hour and a half. I have never in my life been bounced around in a plane like that. They finally told us we were cleared to land only to change their minds 20 minutes later and put us back into holding. FINALLY there was a ding and the flight attendant told us basically "We're going to land, but hold onto your trash because there is no way in Hell I'm taking off my seat belt to go get it". Henry was still awake at this point, for some unknown reason and I read A Light in the Attic by Shel Silverstein and Psssst! by Adam Rex to keep my mind off of the crash scene from LOST seared into the back of my eyeballs. We landed at last and were all happy to finally be off the plane when they announced that lightning had sent the ground crew inside and we'd have to sit on the plane until the storm passed. We finally got off the plane at around 11:30pm. 5 minutes after Henry finally fell asleep. So I had to drag a sleeping 5 year old, my backpack and his carry on (one of those little kid bags with wheels with a handle too short for an adult to actually pull it) from one end of the Charlotte airport clear to the other. I made it to baggage claim and met Kyle, where we waited for an hour for my bags that never came. The lovely woman behind the counter informed me that they did NOT stop them in Charlotte as they had promised and they would be on the morning flight to Asheville, where I'd have to drag Henry BACK to the airport to pick them up. So at about 12:45am we got in the car and started the 2.5 hour drive back to Asheville (with the spare carseat I asked Kyle to bring just in case the bags didn't make it). We got in just before 3am.
Today has been the fresh torture of trying to find the missing bags. That lovely woman behind the counter in the Charlotte airport baggage claim service area was mistaken (confident though she sounded as she whipped sample sized toothpastes and bottled water to the unlucky folks who would have to camp out in the lobby for the night). After dutifully calling the Asheville airport at noon today, I was informed that my bags never actually made it onto any plane. They were still in Hartford. I was told to wait for another flight to land and call back at 2 while they contacted Hartford baggage claim who would promptly call me back if my bag was not en route to Asheville. Uh, no. I called back after 2, as instructed, to find that my bags were still in Hartford and there was no record of my earlier call. After much cajoling on my part, I discovered that in order for them to do anything about my bag being 750 miles away from my person, I would have to drive down to the Asheville airport and file a formal claim. Why she was so reluctant to tell me that...I do not know. She took my contact information (again) and told me (again) that Hartford would surely be calling em any minute now to tell me that the bag was on it's way. Uh, no. I have to wait for Kyle to get home from work so I don't have to drag Henry-who is working on 5 hours of sleep right along with me- to the Asheville airport baggage claim desk to file an official report.
Things in my bag I hope I don't lose:
3 pairs of custom longies I completed while in CT.
1 pair of in stock longies for the late July Neccessite stocking.
lots of yarn
virtually every piece of warm weather clothing Henry owns.
Half a dozen everything bagels from my favorite deli, brought back for Tommy, who misses bagels from the northwest so I got him some. Too bad he forgot to tell me he was going to be in California for 10 days when I got home so he'll have to use them as door stops when he returns next week. That's okay. I'm sure they are serving as a unique clothes freshener as they sit in the baggage holding room at Bradley International Airport. Eventually the smell will get so bad that they'll be motivated to actually return my bags to me...
In other news, I spoke to my Peru contact and the shipment is going to be a few days late. Usually this wouldn't be a problem, but we are leaving AGAIN to make the drive up to northern Michigan to visit my in laws first thing Saturday morning. I am still crossing my fingers and hoping they get here in time for me to invoice and ship them before I leave, but after last night...I dunno.
I'll keep you posted.

Wait List, Pre-Order...and stuff.
I'm still in CT, but I wanted to do a quick update about the wait list and whatnot.
The last batch of pre-orders is closed, but if you were just late on the draw or feel like you should ahve gotten an email but didn't, email me! I over ordered to cover stragglers and folks who fell through the wait list cracks, so there might still be a pair in there for you.
The wait list is no longer posted. Only the first 150 people or so were on the blog list and they have all been taken care of so the wait list blog is no more. Posting it got to be too much to keep up with, so I am now just keeping it on the computer. If you email me and ask to be on the list, you should receive an email confirmation within a week or so. I've been slacking this month with all of the other things that have been going on, so if you emailed me within the past month don't stress about it yet. I'll be sending out a big batch reply to everyone in my inbox when I get home. Pinky swear.
For folks who were on LAST month's pre-order list, they should be en route as I type and hopefully you'll start getting balance invoices (and then shipping notices) Monday and/or Tuesday.
We had a blast in Burlington with my brother, Auntie K and Sam. Henry and Sam finally warmed up to each other the night before we left and got some good cousing interaction going. Kirstin uploaded a little video of it to You Tube, but I can't figure out how to imbed it here. We went to Shelburne Farms and saw a chicken parade, a cow get milked and cheese making in progress. The boys were beat or we would have stayed even longer. I took a few pictures and I'll upload them when I get back to Asheville. I bet you can't wait.
We are back in CT now, and after a morning of breakfast and strawberry picking have set aside a few actual knitting hours. I'm even hoping that little man takes a nap. Tomorrow night my mom and I are leaving the boys behind and heading up to Northamoton, MA to Web's-the largest yarn store in the country-for a knitting drop in and some coffeee and chit chat with my sister in craftiness, Meri of SweetKnits. I can't wait. Friday I think we are going to Mystic Seaport to the big aquarium.
Alright. Back to the needles before I waste all of my time blathering on. I hope everyone is well!

The Nutmeg State.
We have arrived safe and sound in the great state of CT. Aside from a total wipe out on the tarmac on the way to plane #2 resulting in a scraped knee and minor bleeding, the trip was uneventful. I think that the other passengers were a bit scared when I carried a screaming and bloody child down the center aisle to the very last seat in the back of the plane, but he calmed down in almost the second we settled in and actually ended up taking a little snooze. On top of that I got to prove what an awesome mom I am when I successfully produced 2 Care Bear bandages from my backpack to cover the boo boos with. I rock. Hard. Of course, I have no idea where the afore mentioned Care Bear bandages came from or how they got into my backpack (they've probably been there for a year) but that is neither here nor there.
I also wanted to update about the current round of pre-orders. If you got on the list between 12/07 and 2/08 you should have gotten a pre-order email from me. If you didn't, check your spam folder and if it isn't there, shoot me an email. I am so excited to be working my way through the wait list so quickly! I think that the "one pair rule" will be lifted with the next pre-order, woohoo!

Wow.
This weekend was one of the most tiring weekend I think I've ever had. We spent 3 days moving in weather that shifted from 98 degrees and sun to sudden downpour and back again every day. It kept us on our toes, that's for sure! We got so much done that I'm a little amazed. Almost everything is in the new house and most of the rooms are put together enough that you can relax a bit. The bedrooms are in the worst shape since we all need new bedroom furniture. We are still living out of bags as far as clothing is concerned and I need to put some shelving in the closet to get our linens out of the way.
I went to make some curtains yesterday to take away some of that fishbowl feeling and found that my sewing machine pedal didn't make it to the new house. I'm dragging Henry back to the old house this morning to get some of the little things left in the basement and scour the place hoping the pedal just got left behind by accident. I need curtains!
Henry has done an amazing job throughout this whole thing. He's such a great kid. He likes his new room with the "secret passageway" and he seems to be settling in just fine, though I fear he thinks Lowe's is a second home.
I also heard last night that my previous Kiva loan had been repaid. Hooray! I spent a little time on the site this morning and reinvested the money with a women run sewing cooperative in the Dominican Republic. Double Hooray!
AAAANND, in more news- I heard from Peru this morning to expect the next box of Classic Crankys next Friday. If they arrive on time, I will start invoicing balances and shipping the following Monday and Tuesday when I get back from CT. This ALSO means that it is pre-order time again. I will start contacting folks today, so be on the look out for an email if you got on the list between 11/07 and mid-01/08. WooHoo!

We Movin' on Up!
Holy cow. I never knew we had this much stuff...
After dropping Henry off at a friend's house, we have spent the day elbow deep in stuff, stuff, stuff. We've definitely made a large dent, but there is still so much to do and I am so. tired. We have to pick Henry back up in an hour and a half so I really shouldn't be stopping, but Kyle ran out to drop off some things at Habitat for Humanity and I just needed to sit for a minute.
If you are one of my loverly auction winners and I haven't heard from you yet, our internet will be shut down first thing in the morning and I won't have it again until Saturday night (BEST case scenario). I can read email from my phone, but it won't be the easiest thing on Earth, so if there is some lag time, that's why.
We close tomorrow at 9am and then it is MOVING DAY! Tonight will be our last night in this house. I'd get all nostalgic remembering all of the milestones Henry reached while we lived here, but my brain isn't working properly at the moment.
Must...keep...packing...

Whew!
With Henry home with me the days are slipping by so quickly I've not been very good about blogging. It has been a great and crazy few days, though.
Friday night I went to my first country auction and it was fabulous. It was SO "my thing". I could sit and watch for hours. As it was, we were there long enough for me to go a little overboard bidding on an old oak library table (which will be my work table once I've given it a little TLC) and then redeemed myself by having the mother of all scores for Kyle:

I got the 3 cameras, all which are in great condition with their original cases, a couple of external flashes with bulbs and about 10 boxes of slides of someone's 1975 European vacation (think Carol Brady standing in front of Stonehenge) all for the whopping sum of...ten dollars. Score!
I also finished Sandra's heavy wetting sea shore longies this weekend. I love the colors she chose:

They will begin the long journey to their new home in Croatia this afternoon.
Yesterday we went to our friends Jess and Noah's house. Jess owns and operates the amazing baby boutique Quilt Baby and once upon a time we got the boys together to play while we worked several times a week. With the boys in school and business out of control, it had been a while and I forgot how absolutely lovely it is to sit and chat with Jess while we work.
In the afternoon we went to what will be our new house to do a walk through and check out all of the repairs that were supposed to be done. The wife of the couple we are buying the house from is due to go into labor on our actual closing date, so I think they are anxious (and rightly so) to get things wrapped up on their end. We have one wonky faucet that needs to be fixed, but other than that we are ready to go! I stood in my office for a long time trying to picture what it would look like when it was all set up. It is a funny little room and it should be fun to plan it all out. I can't wait to share pictures with everyone! But since we are venturing up to New England to see the fam just a handful of days after we move in-it may be a while.
I can't WAIT to go, though. It is going to be just the break I need from all this stress, stress, stress! I can't wait to see everyone and see how huge my nephew is getting in person. Someone asked in the comments the other day where I am going. I will fly into Hartford and stay with my folks (in a tiny town called Vernon) for a day or so before packing Henry up and heading to Burlington, VT to see my brother, sister in law and nephew for the weekend. Then I'll head back down to CT to finish out the week and weekend with my folks, where my poor dear mother will be forced to play Star Wars for days at a time. I'm also secretly thinking of a day trip to Web's in Northampton if we have time. Anyone want to have a knitting meet up while I'm up there? That might be fun.
Okay. I'm off to get Henry ready for a much needed hair cut.
